After the event report with pictures

The Greenhouse hosted a successful Health & Wellness Open Day for all homeless members of the public on Thursday 19th May 2016.

The event was well attended, mixed with members of the general public, registered patients, Maxine, Kowsara and Kasia from NHS England and a number of excellent services for all visitors to access and learn about.

Attendees met new and existing members of the team at The Greenhouse including AT Medics Chief Executive Susan Sinclair and Regional Manager Nick Christou. The event helped to promote the role and benefits of The Greenhouse GP services, planned and ongoing improvements, as well as raising awareness about a number of local healthcare service providers accessible through the surgery for patients and local homeless people in Hackney.

Made in Hackney, a Local Community Food Kitchen and a project of charity Amurt, offer up to 400 free meals a week to homeless people from produce that would otherwise be wasted, and they delivered a healthy and warm meal to attendees at the Open Day whilst raising awareness of their eco-community kitchen and other initiatives.

Hackney Diabetes Centre offered glucose testing to attendees, together with specific advice by their lay educators on management of diabetes and prevention for homeless people, whilst the Community Dental Service Team delivered free oral health screening and advice.

Leyton Orient Trust raised awareness about their health and fitness intervention programmes such as Walking Football, Football Fans in Training and Sporting Memories – discussing the needs and interests of patients, whilst City and Hackney Mind talked to patients about their work in preventing mental health problems, promoting mental well being and ensure those with mental health problems are respected and included in the local community.

Dog’s Trust carried out free health checks and offered micro-chipping for a number of dogs belonging to homeless patients and Just Add Spice were on hand to talk to patients about Time Credits, a very popular initiative in the locality.

AT Medics were delighted to host this event, and extend special thanks to the team and services who made this all possible.

Health & Wellness Open Day on Thursday 19 May 2016

The Greenhouse GP in Hackney, providing GP health services as well as co-located housing and welfare support for homeless individuals, will be hosting a Health & Wellness Open Day for all homeless people in Hackney on Thursday 19th May 2016 between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. See poster below.

The event aims to promote the role and benefits of The Greenhouse, as well as to raise awareness about and allow patients to experience a number of local health service providers accessible through the surgery for patients and local homeless people in Hackney.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet members of practice staff, particularly newer team members, and will be treated to FREE mini health checks, whilst those with dogs can will be able to have free health checks and welfare advice for their dogs. There will also be free soup for visitors.

Leyton Orient Trust will be raising awareness about their health and fitness intervention programmes such as Walking Football, Football Fans in Training and Sporting Memories – discussing the needs and interests of patients, and will also be able to invite interested patients to future matches in the forthcoming season and future events at the Score Centre in Leyton.

St Leonard’s Special Care Dental Service who provide mobile dental care advice and help with meeting costs for people who are unable to use high street dentists, and the Hackney Diabetes Centre will have some lay educators on the day to educate patients and to perform glucose testing.

One Hackney and City will provide information about integrated care and other services available locally for the most vulnerable patients in City and Hackney and the collocated Thamesreach will be providing their usual expert housing and welfare advice service.

Dog’s Trust have also been invited to be provide free health checks and welfare advice for dog owners and Healthwatch Hackney will be present encourage a patient participation group together with the Greenhouse management. There will also be a number of other services and activities for visitors to benefit from.

The Greenhouse GP is committed to delivering high quality care focused on patient needs and safety, and is working to achieve clinical improvement through the implementation and advancement of quality systems, as well as continually reviewing and investing in training and education of staff.
