The Greenhouse hosted a successful Health & Wellness Open Day for all homeless members of the public on Thursday 19th May 2016.

The event was well attended, mixed with members of the general public, registered patients, Maxine, Kowsara and Kasia from NHS England and a number of excellent services for all visitors to access and learn about.

Attendees met new and existing members of the team at The Greenhouse including AT Medics Chief Executive Susan Sinclair and Regional Manager Nick Christou. The event helped to promote the role and benefits of The Greenhouse GP services, planned and ongoing improvements, as well as raising awareness about a number of local healthcare service providers accessible through the surgery for patients and local homeless people in Hackney.

Made in Hackney, a Local Community Food Kitchen and a project of charity Amurt, offer up to 400 free meals a week to homeless people from produce that would otherwise be wasted, and they delivered a healthy and warm meal to attendees at the Open Day whilst raising awareness of their eco-community kitchen and other initiatives.

Hackney Diabetes Centre offered glucose testing to attendees, together with specific advice by their lay educators on management of diabetes and prevention for homeless people, whilst the Community Dental Service Team delivered free oral health screening and advice.

Leyton Orient Trust raised awareness about their health and fitness intervention programmes such as Walking Football, Football Fans in Training and Sporting Memories – discussing the needs and interests of patients, whilst City and Hackney Mind talked to patients about their work in preventing mental health problems, promoting mental well being and ensure those with mental health problems are respected and included in the local community.

Dog’s Trust carried out free health checks and offered micro-chipping for a number of dogs belonging to homeless patients and Just Add Spice were on hand to talk to patients about Time Credits, a very popular initiative in the locality.

AT Medics were delighted to host this event, and extend special thanks to the team and services who made this all possible.
